COMMERCIAL SOLAR & BATTERY SYSTEMS

Built on Victron Energy

At iJo Power, we design, supply, install and maintain bespoke Victron Energy systems for UK businesses.

We specialise exclusively in Victron Energy, allowing us to engineer flexible, high-performance power systems that go far beyond boxed commercial solar packages.

Whether your site is single-phase today or requires full three-phase power, our systems are designed around how your business actually operates — now and in the future.

Why Victron Energy for Business

Victron Energy is globally recognised for modular, scalable and high-reliability power systems used in commercial, industrial and critical environments.

Unlike standard off-the-shelf systems that are limited by fixed inverter sizes, MPPT inputs and low AC output limits, Victron allows us to design systems that match your real-world electrical demands.

Key advantages include:

  • Scalable solar and battery storage

  • Multiple (effectively unlimited) MPPT solar inputs

  • High peak and continuous power capability

  • Single-phase and three-phase system design

  • Intelligent monitoring and control via VRM

  • Seamless integration with existing electrical infrastructure

Single-Phase to Three-Phase Solutions

Many UK businesses start with a single-phase supply but later outgrow it due to expanding operations, new machinery, EV charging or heat pumps.

With Victron Energy systems, we can:

  • Design systems for single-phase or three-phase operation
  • Provide three-phase power from battery storage where appropriate
  • Support sites transitioning from single-phase to three-phase
  • Balance loads across phases for stability and efficiency
  • Future-proof installations as power demands increase

This flexibility is particularly valuable for agricultural, commercial and light industrial sites where demand changes over time.

GETTING STARTED

How does the project work?

To embark on your journey toward energy independence:

  1. Get in touch with us for a friendly discussion with one of our solar experts about your energy needs.
  2. It’s essential for our team to discuss your current energy costs, energy usage and the space available for solar panels. We can then look at the investment budget and ROI; should this be suitable, we then proceed to a site survey and a full proposal.
  3. We will work with you on the design, planning applications and secure permissions from your DNO in order for your installation to go ahead. Your system will be tailored to your business and you will be provided with all the details, including detailed ROI calculations. We can even assist with your carbon calculations.
  4. During the installation, our project leads will be onsite to give you daily updates on the process and ensure the site is 100% H&S compliant.
  5. After fine-tuning your system, our experienced installers will ensure everything is up and running smoothly. If you have your own electrical team, we’re more than happy to collaborate with them to deliver your system.
  6. As soon as your solar installation is switched on we will walk you through the system and explain how everything works. You will receive a detailed schematic, electrical certificate, a solar array report and full operations and maintenance manual.

Frequently Asked Questions for Business Clients:

Financial questions

How much can I make selling back to the grid?2024-05-23T18:01:28+00:00

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) replaced Feed In Tariffs (FiT) in 2020, and offers much lower returns of 3p-6p per kWh. There are several more attractive export offerings from suppliers such as Octopus Energy, with variable pricing through the Outgoing Agile tariff or a fixed 15p export rate. Careful management of both your import and export tariffs will ensure the best returns. The Optimise.My.Energy app will help you to minimise your import costs and maximise your outgoing prices, making best use of your solar and battery storage.

What are the benefits of a battery storage system2024-05-23T18:00:34+00:00

A battery system captures your excess solar energy and allows you to use it at night or during daylight hours with minimal solar production. Some battery systems can also provide backup during a power cut, keeping your business running even if the grid goes down.

Depending on your system size, business type, and energy tariff, a battery system can also help to reduce your peak power demands and their associated costs. Battery systems can also facilitate grid export at peak times, allowing you to increase your financial returns.

What are the ongoing maintenance costs?2024-05-23T17:59:52+00:00

A solar energy system has no moving parts and needs no specific maintenance. We recommend periodic online monitoring to ensure performance is maintained. We offer this service as part of one of our post-installation packages.

What relief will I get on capital expenditure?2024-05-23T17:59:19+00:00

You can claim up to 130% capital allowances on your investment in a solar and battery storage system.

What will be the reduction on my energy costs2024-05-23T17:58:42+00:00

Your solar and battery system will save you money as soon as it is operational. Based on data from our commercial projects, customers typically achieve a 75%-80% reduction in their annual electricity bills and a return on investment between 4-7 years.

How much will my Solar installation cost?2024-05-23T17:58:09+00:00

Your installation costs will vary depending on the size of your system, the brands selected, your building type, and whether scaffolding or other safety equipment is required. We can provide an installation cost via one of our recommended installers, or you can purchase the equipment and arrange your own installation.

Technical questions

What is my grid status, and how will this work with my Distribution Network Operator?2024-05-24T11:51:46+00:00

Installing a PV and battery system that is connected to the grid requires certification and in some cases, permission from the DNO. Systems capable of delivering 3680W or less back to the grid are certified as G98, and do not require an application prior to installation. Best practice suggests you should notify your DNO. Systems capable of greater than 3680W grid export require G99 certification, and an application must be made to your DNO prior to installation.

How will energy be distributed across the building?2024-05-24T11:51:07+00:00

Your solar and battery system will be connected between the grid and your distribution board, providing you with clean uninterrupted power to your entire building, just like the grid. Depending on the size and design of your system, batteries can either provide backup power to selected circuits or to the entire premises.

Can a solar and battery storage system power heavy plant machinery?2024-05-24T11:50:33+00:00

Effectiveness of the system is governed by design and configuration, which we optimise to suit our customers’ needs. The maximum achievable output is 360kVA, which will power many industrial operations.

What is the likely energy return with installations of different sizes?2024-05-24T11:49:56+00:00
During the quotation process, we will identify your optimum system size based on your business type, electricity consumption, peak power demands, and available roof space. Typical returns on investment range from 4-7 years.

Practical questions

What is my position with my landlord if there is damage to the fabric of the building as a result of solar installation?2024-05-24T11:55:56+00:00

For rented properties, whether commercial or residential, written agreement must always be obtained with the property owner prior to installation of solar or battery equipment. Careful consideration must also be given to the long-term ownership of the equipment at the time when the rental period ends.

How long will my solar panels last?2024-05-24T11:55:19+00:00

Solar panels have no moving parts or internal fluids and are designed to last up to 40 years. Our recommended leading brands, including REC, LG, QCells, and Canadian Solar, are guaranteed to maintain at least 80% of their performance over 25 years, and many will maintain 90% or more.

Are there health and safety implications of the installation process?2024-05-24T11:54:47+00:00

Accredited solar electricians and installers must adhere to strict health and safety guidelines defined by the UK Government. To ensure your installation is safe and compliant, we can recommend a trusted installer from our own network who has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, communication, and attention to detail.

During your initial site visit, the solar installer will assess your property and advise of any specific safety measures or equipment required, such as scaffolding, harnesses, or protective barriers. This initial assessment gives you all the costs up-front and ensures a safe installation for workers and your staff.

Will there be disruptions to my day-to-day business?2024-05-24T11:54:14+00:00

Your solar energy installation will have a minimal impact on your business as much of the work is external. During the final testing and commissioning process, there will be a short period of power interruption to some or all areas of the property while final connections are made. This will be coordinated with you in advance to avoid critical times.

How much does solar output vary throughout the year?2024-05-24T11:53:41+00:00

Your solar panels will generate free electricity every day of the year, but perform best in spring and summer. Solar PV panels produce energy from sunlight (not heat), with excellent performance on cold, sunny days.

Your solar generation in the peak summer months (June and July) will typically be five times higher than during the lowest winter months (December and January).

As a seasonal guide, a 20.0 kWp system may produce around 525 kWh in January, 1,925 kWh in April, 2,450 kWh in July, and 1,050 kWh in October.
